Judge: English Court Provides Proper Forum For BP Shareholder Derivative Suit

HOUSTON – Pursuant to a recently enacted United Kingdom statute, the English High Court is a more proper forum for a shareholder derivative lawsuit brought by BP PLC investors on behalf of the oil giant and against several of its current and former officers and directors for alleged misrepresentations with regard to the Deepwater Horizon explosion and ensuing oil spill, a Texas federal court judge ruled Sept. 15 (In re: BP Shareholder Derivative Litigation, No. 10-3447, S.D. Texas (In re: BP plc Securities Litigation, MDL No. 2185, S.D. Texas).
