Hawaii Supreme Court: Insurers Other Than HMOs Can Provide Medicaid Services

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Supreme Court on Jan. 25 affirmed that accident and health insurers and not just health maintenance organizations are qualified to receive contracts to provide services to Medicaid’s aged, blind and disabled population (AlohaCare v. Gordon I. Ito, insurance commissioner, et al., No. SCAP-30276, Hawaii Sup.; 2012 Haw. LEXIS 22).
