First Circuit tosses $30 million fee award in Volkswagen case
The First Circuit has thrown out a federal judge’s $30 million attorney fee award for plaintiffs lawyers in multidistrict litigation over oil-sludge damage to Volkswagen cars. The panel ruled that the judge erroneously based the award on federal law and remanded the case so that the fee could be calculated based on Massachusetts law.
