Federal Judge Compels Arbitration Of Cruise Line Worker’s Injury-Related Claims

MIAMI – A Florida federal judge on Dec. 6 compelled arbitration of a seafarer’s injury-related case filed against a cruise line that employed him, finding that an affirmative defense related to public policy under the United Nations Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards (Simone Lazarus v. Princess Cruise Lines Ltd., No. 1:11-cv-22665, S.D. Fla.; 2011 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 140123).
