Bork Takes Aim at Kagan’s ‘Judicial Hero’

Failed U.S. Supreme Court nominee and former Judge Robert Bork said Wednesday that Elena Kagan’s admiration of an Israeli judge is “disqualifying in and of itself” for Kagan’s own nomination to the Court. In remarks made in 2006, Kagan called Aharon Barak, who was then the chief of the Supreme Court of Israel, her “judicial hero.” Echoing similar statements from other conservatives, Bork sharply criticized Barak’s approach to judging, saying Barak “has the most extravagantly activist record that I know of.”
